Overview
Stari Grad, on Hvar鈥檚 north coast, is a quieter, more cultured and altogether more sober affair than Hvar Town, its stylish and sybaritic sister. If you鈥檙e not after pulsating nightlife and thousands of people crushing each other along the streets in the high season, head here and enjoy Hvar at a more leisurely pace. That said, you can easily see all of the little town's sights in half a day.

Stari Grad
This fortified house was built by aristocrat and writer Petar Hektorovi膰 (1487鈥1572) in the 16th century. At its heart is a lovely, lush Renaissance鈥
Dominican Monastery of St Peter the Martyr
Stari Grad
Founded in 1482, this monastery was damaged by the Turks in 1571 and later fortified with a tower. Palms, orange trees, hydrangeas and lavender bloom in鈥

Built in 1605, this large church has a baroque facade and water-damaged paintwork inside in shades of pale green, blue and grey. Note the faux-marble鈥
