Kailua-Kona, also known as 鈥楰ailua,鈥 鈥楰ona Town鈥 and sometimes just 鈥楾own,鈥 is a love-it-or-leave-it kind of place. On the main drag of Ali驶i Dr, along the shoreline, Kailua works hard to evoke the nonchalance of a sun-drenched tropical getaway, but in an injection-molded, bargain-priced way.
